Join Ella in a hands-on, four-part series designed to introduce you to the most popular power tools in our woodshop. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn new skills or an experienced woodworker seeking access to these tools, this series offers something for everyone. Each session of this workshop will provide:
An explanation of the tools and their common uses.
Hands-on instruction on how to safely operate each machine.
Instruction on how to progress on making a classic three legged stool.
Enjoy a calm, focused learning environment in our well-equipped woodshop. Attendees of this class will have membership thru the course of the class. You will want to plan for an additional 2-3 hours each week to progress on your stool. You are also welcome to use your membership to work on additional projects!

Details:
Instructor: Ella Bourland has taught over 100 classes at Maker Works, is proficient in every tool in our woodshop, and has a background in both landscape design and outdoor construction. She’s eager to introduce more people to the world of woodworking.
Learn to operate: Drill press, band saw, table saw, panel saw, miter saw, planer, jointer, drum sander, and the router table.
Intended for: Beginners, project-oriented learners, and experienced woodworkers needing access to tools.
Join us and gain the confidence to use these powerful tools safely and effectively!
Session 1: Planer / Jointer / Drum Sander
Planer: Creates uniformly thick boards with smooth surfaces.
Jointer: Flattens and squares up the edges of boards.
Drum Sander: Provides an even finish on wood surfaces.
Key Concepts: Safety, tool setup and operation, and project prep for wood.
Session 2: Three Saws
Miter Saw: Enables quick and accurate crosscuts and miters.
Table Saw: Excellent for making straight, precise cuts in large sheets or pieces of wood.
Panel Saw: Allows for easy cutting of large plywood sheets into manageable sizes.
Key Concepts: Safety, blade selection, making cross & rip cuts, avoiding kick-back.
Session 3: Drill Press / Bandsaw
Drill Press: Ideal for precision drilling.
Band Saw: Great for cutting curves, intricate shapes, and resawing lumber into thinner pieces.
Key Concepts: Safety, bit choices, speed and feed selection, work-holding strategies.
Session 4: router table
Router Table: Great for rounding edges, corners, and putting channels in your wood.
Key Concepts: Safety, tooling, setup, feed direction and general operation.
