“If we’re going to look at the big picture of imagination and inspiration in our culture, it’s designers and fabricators that bring it to life. Within that framework, the Great Lakes Arts Foundation has a mission to exhibit creativity and ingenuity by developing a major art museum, a 100 acre sculpture garden, and a sculpture studio with programing in stone, metal, wood, glass, ceramics, and recyclable materials. In our quest to find acreage, we met another non-profit organization that positioned themselves on 215 acre of land with 17 buildings. The site was formerly known as Boysville, a campus for orphaned boys run by the catholic church. Many building are in our sites for collaboration; a museum, a sculpture studio, a small apartment building, a large restaurant with two kitchens, a church for intimate performances, and a large gym perfect for use as a theater.”
