Sharon Que will be displaying and discussing tools particular to her craft of making violins and violas. Bring tools (not necessarily related to violin-making) that you'd like to swap with others. This event is free to members of Maker Works, $5 to non-members, payable at the door.
Sharon Que, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA:
"Since 1988 I have been working with violins and violas. First assisting new makers, Curtin & Alf, both designing tools for this small production and making violins.
Now I run my own business devoting most of my time to restoring violins and violas to bring them back to excellent playing condition and put them in the hands of musicians. I have worked on many historically significant instruments and I oversee the collection at The Henry Ford. This work experience involves problem solving that has inspired me to design tools and fixtures to help obtain a desired outcome of fine craftsmanship.
Previous to this I obtained a journeyman’s card in wood model making through the UAW, at General Motors. I have had the great pleasure of teaching in Italy, Spain and the USA. Currently I’m a
member of the AFVBM, VSA serving as a board member, and the MVA.
