Maker Works Grand Opening
Last Saturday was Maker Works' official Grand Opening party! Though we've been open for 9 months, we thought it was about time to host a party. And it was a total success, and a blast to have the studios packed full of members and future members. Tools were demoed, robots were operated, projects were displayed and so much more...
Tours were given of all the studios but soon we had way too many people coming in to give 'formal' tours. (These wooden signs were engraved using the Epilog Helix Laser Cutter using an Adobe Illustrator file.)
People got to see current member projects and get ideas for when they become members. (The 'Hello' sign was made using the ShopBot CNC Router and the quilts were made by the Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild, which has their bi-monthly meetings and sew-ins at Maker Works.)
Current members demoed the tools, which gave non-members the chance to chat with them about the tool and what it is like being a Maker Works member.
Some of the groups that meet at Maker Works participated, too! All of these groups are free to join and all ages are welcome: Go-Tech, Southeast Michigan CNC Users Group, Michigan Robot Club, Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild, and the Southeast Michigan Crafty Meetup.
Brain Monkeys entertained kids with 'Speed Sumo' tournaments using Lego Mindstorms througout the day.
The FIRST Robotics Teams (the Rat Pack and Eagle Imperium) let kids collect the basketballs and operate the robots! How cool!
The Un-build Project Table let people take apart small electronics.
And the new CNC Plasma Cutter was a HUGE hit! This tool goes up on our class calendar in June!
San Street asian street food cart (of Mark's Carts fame) provided food

We want to say thank you to everyone who participated at the Grand Opening party and everyone who showed up and saw the studios! If you missed it, no worries! You can stop by any time and get a tour of the studios. No need to call ahead. We'd love to show you around!
